Dean Scarlett, Co-Owner & Vice-President
An automation renaissance is underway. A massive increase in the widespread usage of machine vision in the realm of automated inspection is driving manufacturing companies to become more intelligent and autonomous. Although machine vision systems continue to make inroads, a set of challenges persist, preventing it from being a silver bullet for manufacturers. “Often, manufacturers who have explored the use of machine vision to automate the inspection of their products do not have a positive experience as many machine vision systems are not set up in the right way to garner success over the long-term,” points out Dean Scarlett, co-owner and vice-president of Vista Solutions. Against this backdrop, Vista Solutions’ subject matter experts armed with the knowledge base of different technologies in the marketplace provide the knowhow to successfully develop and implement machine vision systems.
Established in 2003, Vista Solutions is a solution developer as well as a one-stop-shop service provider of turnkey vision inspection solutions to a diverse client base spanning automotive, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, consumer products, military, and metal casting. What sets them apart is that being vendor agnostic, the Vista Solutions team can provide unbiased recommendations to manufacturers to solve their inspection challenges.
“The first requisite is to understand the products of our clients and determine their requirements, whether it is to improve quality, reduce direct labor costs associated with inspection, or better throughput with automated inspection,” explains Scarlett. Based on the requirements, the technology-agnostic company offers recommendations to their clients about the various options available that will help them solve their inspection challenges and achieve success.
To this end, Vista Solutions follows a conservative and pragmatic approach comprising three sequential steps: image, inspect, and automate to construct the right solution.
We are the go-to provider for our clients as we are a one-stop solution provider and developer for everything related to machine vision
The process begins with generating the right type of image, depending on the material. The next step involves the inspection of the image by applying either off-the-shelf or custom software and imaging tools to determine whether the product meets the quality requirements or not. The custom development is carried out at their state-of-the-art vision laboratories, which enables Vista Solutions to test and prove-out all prospective applications. The final stage involves successfully integrating the lab developed solution into the existing manufacturing footprint at the customer’s facility.
Vista Solutions’ comprehensive services portfolio is backed by three business segments. The smart camera vision solutions group handles the basic applications and challenges. The custom developed vision solutions group, with a subset to this group being Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, develops advanced solutions to solve demanding applications. The vision guided robotics group helps customers in introducing smart robotics into their automation and machine footprint. “We are the go-to Subject Matter Expert for our clients as we are a one-stop solution provider and developer for everything related to machine vision,” extols Scarlett.
Scarlett also takes pride in highlighting their longevity and experience in the industry that helps them to draw on an unbelievable application knowledge base. Adding to their competitive advantage is their technology-agnostic approach and emphasis on investments in world-class technologies.
Vista Solutions is currently on an expansion spree, with physical facilities in Windsor, Detroit, Toronto and Mexico, and an expanding footprint in Western Michigan and Nashville. Alongside the organic expansion, is consideration towards strategic acquisitions to further grow and scale the footprint of the business in the future.
Scarlett sums up, “Industry 4.0 is real. As the industry transforms, unbelievable opportunities are coming our way in the form of deep learning and artificial intelligence. And we are gearing up with dedicated resources to resolve these evolving challenges of our clients.”
